Boston School Reform Initiative
Few levers for change are more important in improving the schools than the quality of school leadership, the quality of the teaching staff, and the quality of parent engagement.
The Boston School Reform Project works with parent, church, and community groups to help develop an informed, mobilized, and empowered constituency committed to the systemic reform of public education in
African-American, Latino, and other students of color, who make up over 80% of all students, continue to be failed by the Boston Public Schools at unacceptable rates, as identified by test results, drop-out rates, and the achievement gap.
The Project provides technical assistance to a number of community-based organizations, including the Boston Parents Organizing Network (BPON), in the form of data and policy analyses of BPS trends and issues (e.g., MCAS scores, drop-out rates).
The Project has developed a series of brochures (e.g., MCAS Support Services, Parent-Teacher Conferences) to help parents and students understand their rights and opportunities in the Boston Public Schools.
