Jakira joined MAC in 2021 and is the Program Director for MAC’s Racial Equity and Access Program (REAP). Through the work of REAP, Jakira exclusively focuses on Boston Public Schools (BPS).

MAC’s Racial Equity and Access Program (REAP) works collaboratively to transform K-12 education into a racially equitable system in Boston. REAP’s role is to work with the District and other BPS stakeholders to address the root causes of racial inequity in Boston’s schools.  

Jakira earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology, with a concentration in Crime and Justice from Suffolk University. She also minored in both Philosophy and Government. Jakira earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy, with a concentration in Educational Policy from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Jakira has nearly three years of professional experience within government service. She has worked at the Massachusetts Office on Disability as an Access Specialist, working to promote and advance architectural accessibility in the built environment. Jakira has also worked at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health working to advance health equity within communities that have historically been inadequately served.

Jakira has a passion for civil rights advocacy that advances populations who are impacted by systemic racism and anti-Black racism and is eager to continue this work through her work at MAC!
